Pigment Guide

Specify colour and performance without assuming that every pigment of one colour is equivalent.

Colour family and identity

Separate white pigments, inorganic colour pigments, organic pigments, carbon black and effect pigments. For titanium dioxide, distinguish rutile and anatase requirements. For iron oxides, identify the target shade rather than relying on the word red or yellow alone.

Physical references matter

Provide an approved physical colour reference where possible. Screens do not establish colour acceptance. Record the binder system, intended application and tests required by your technical team.

Documentation and qualification

Request manufacturer identity, the proposed pigment specification, TDS and SDS. Pigment index numbers and performance values should be taken from that documentation. Do not assume a listing is a confirmed grade or approved substitute.

Procurement overview only. Consult the proposed manufacturer's documents for product-specific requirements.
