Fillers & Extenders Guide

Distinguish mineral identity, processing and particle properties in a bulk enquiry.

Mineral names and overlapping terms

Calcium carbonate includes ground and precipitated forms. Kaolin may also be described commercially as china clay, while calcined kaolin is a processed material. Barytes and barite refer to natural barium sulfate; confirm whether natural or precipitated material is required.

Request the relevant measurements

A comparison often needs particle distribution, composition, brightness, oil absorption and moisture information. Ask for the actual supplier measurements and methods. Do not infer these values from a photograph or from the mineral name.

Plan the commercial comparison

Define the required quantity, acceptable packaging and delivery destination. Where production is recurring, state the consumption period and how batches will be approved. Review the current SDS for each proposed material as part of procurement.

Procurement overview only. Consult the proposed manufacturer's documents for product-specific requirements.
